Heritage Volunteers are members of The Arts Society who help to preserve our history by contributing to the maintenance of the contents of museums, galleries, historic houses and churches – archiving such things as military memorabilia, photographic collections, conserving books and textiles and making replica costumes. Training is always given before volunteers commence their tasks, enabling them to proceed in a “professional” manner.
At present in North Lincolnshire, some members undertake duties at Scawby Hall. Some are guides when the Hall is open on various dates between Easter and October. Others help throughout the year with the preservation of books that have been collected by the family over the past three centuries. This involves dusting the books and undertaking repairs to the covers and pages.
It is very satisfying for Heritage Volunteers to know that they are helping to preserve English history.
